With one final tournament left in 2024, Hwabongjoong will try to win its second title of the season.
Hwa Bongjoong won the 2024 Korean Secondary School Basketball Weekend League Wangjoong Wangjeon (Wangjoong Wangjeon) championship on Thursday, defeating South Central Jeonju Namjung 68-60 in the finals.
Lee Seung-hyun (188 cm, G/F) led the way with 28 points, 22 rebounds, and six assists, including four three-pointers, while Song Yoo-chan (170 cm, G) provided solid support with 21 points and 메이저사이트 two assists, including three three-pointers.
two assists, including three three-pointers.
“It’s so good,” said Hwabongjoong coach Kim Hyun-soo, ”We’ve won other tournaments before, but we haven’t won the Wang Zhong Wang. Before the tournament, the players and I were together and said, ‘Let’s try to win the title,’” he said.
“Our team has an advantage on the outside when attacking. (Lee) Seung-hyun and (Song) Yoo-chan did a good job at key moments, (Seo) Sang-min grabbed a lot of rebounds and scored a lot of points, and (Lim) Jun-sung didn’t show everything he did in practice, but he did a good job,” he said, applauding the team.
When asked about his defense, he said, “I usually like to use a full-court press, but I refrained from it in this tournament. Instead, we prepared a defense that shut down their leading scorer. I’m grateful that the players followed along,” he said.
Hwa Bong-joong, meanwhile, finished third at the Association Championships in April. At the Federation Championships in May, he reached the quarterfinals and won a silver medal at the National Youth Games.
His victory at the Wangjoong Wangjeon must have been even more precious as he was disappointed in the previous tournament. The team is currently preparing to compete in the 54th Chuseok National Men’s and Women’s Basketball Federation Games on August 30 in Sangju, Gyeongbuk.
Coach Kim said, “Originally, the Chuseok Games were mainly for second-year players. This year, after winning the Wang Joongwang Championship, we are going to compete as an elite team and try to win the Chuseok Championship,” said Kim.
Kim laughed at the idea of “pissing off other teams,” and said, “The three juniors (Seo Sang-min, Song Yoo-chan, and Lim Jun-sung) really want to participate. They actively expressed their desire to finish well in middle school. They said they would train harder and set their goals high. They are all very motivated,” he said, shifting his attention to the fall competition.
