New Zealand women’s soccer files official protest

Defending Olympic women’s soccer champion Canada has been caught spying on its opponents with a drone.

New Zealand, a participant in the Paris 2024 women’s soccer tournament, lodged an official complaint with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) after Canadian support staff allegedly flew a drone during a training session, according to Reuters on Thursday.

In a statement, the New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) said Canada has apologized for the incident and an investigation has been launched to determine exactly what happened.

According to the NZOC, a drone flew over the New Zealand soccer team’s training in Saint-Etienne, France, on Aug. 22, local time.

Police responded to a report from the New Zealand team’s support staff and arrested a Canadian soccer team support staff member who was using the drone to gather intelligence.

“The NZOC has sent a formal letter of protest to the IOC,” the organization said, adding, ”New Zealand Football is committed to upholding the integrity and fairness of the Olympic Games and is deeply shocked and disappointed by this incident, which occurred just three days before the opening match of the Paris Games.”

Canada apologized to New Zealand for the unprecedented “drone spying” and is conducting an investigation.

Canada is the defending women’s soccer gold medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, but the team was embarrassed by its overzealousness to win back-to-back titles.

Canada and New Zealand were drawn in Group A alongside hosts France and Colombia.

The two teams will meet in the first match of Group A on June 26 at 0:00. 온라인카지노사이트
