Six wins in 10 games despite missing four starters
Game 2, Day 13 against Doosan, who had lost two in a row
The Kia Tigers
Are keeping their fall baseball hopes alive. They’re still on the edge of a cliff, but a miracle is within reach.
The Tigers cruised to an 11-0 victory over the KIUM Heroes of the 2023 Shinhan Bank Solar KBO League at Gwangju-KIA Champions Field on April 11.
Starting pitcher Yang Hyun-jong
Pitched eight innings of six-hit ball, striking out six and walking none to earn the win. At the plate, Socrates Brito went 3-
for-5 with a home run and two RBIs, while Kim Sun-bin went 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI.
With the win, sixth-ranked KIA improved to 70-2 and 68-68 on the season and cut the deficit to two games over the fifth-
ranked Doosan Bears (71-2 and 65). The gap between them and third-place SSG Landers (73 points, 3 draws, 64 losses)
and NC Dinos (73 points, 2 draws, 64 losses) is 3.5 games.
KIA’s postseason hopes were clouded by a 5-6 loss against SSG on Oct. 10. However, rival Doosan swept back-to-back
games against the KT Wiz on the 10th and Lotte Giants on the 11th, rekindling KIA’s fall baseball hopes.
KIA
Was hit with an emergency at the end of the season when its main players went down with injuries. Na Sung-beom
(hamstring), Choi Hyung-woo (collarbone), Park Chan-ho (forearm), and Choi Won-joon (calf) suffered back-to-back
injuries that ended their season. But even without their key resources, the team managed to win six of their last 10 games, including a three-game winning streak.
KIA will be in the hunt for a win against Lotte at Anbang on Wednesday, starting with foreign starter Mario Sanchez.
Sanchez pitched well in his last start against the KT Wiz on April 4, allowing three runs on eight hits with five strikeouts
in eight innings. The bats will face off against Lotte right-hander Woo Kang-hoon, who made his debut this year.
On the 13th, a fateful matchup will take place at Jamsil Stadium. KIA and Doosan will go head-to-head. KIA did not reveal
their starting pitcher in advance, while Doosan announced their homegrown ace Kwak Bin.
After the game against Doosan, KIA will play its final two games of the season at home against the NC Dinos. They will
need to accumulate as many wins as possible in the remaining four games and keep an eye on Doosan’s performance. 스포츠토토맨
