Baseball Samsung grabs lead LG, brakes ‘magic number’

In the Korean baseball league, Samsung caught leader LG behind a strong performance from left-handed pitcher Choi Chae-heung and a focused batting lineup.

Samsung defeated LG 11-1 in an away game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul today (Aug. 28).

Choi Chae-heung, who had lost seven straight games since returning to the team in June after serving military service in the Merchant Marine, earned his first win of the season in 15 games.

After shutting down the LG bats with six innings of six-hit ball on 94 pitches, one walk, four strikeouts, and one unearned run, Choi earned his first first-team victory in 737 days since September 21, 2021, against the Busan Lotte.

LG, which until the day before had a “magic number” of six for first place in the regular season and a direct trip to the Korean Series for the first time in 29 years, recently ended a four-game winning streak.

In Busan, Lotte swept its home series against Hanwha 3-0.

Riding a two-game winning streak, the league’s seventh-ranked Lotte kept realistic hopes alive for postseason contention until the end of the season.

With fifth-place SSG and sixth-place KIA losing back-to-back on the same day, Lotte closed the gap between them to four and three games, respectively.

Lotte starter Barnes 토토사이트 pitched well, going 6 innings, 100 pitches, 4 hits, 2 walks, and 9 strikeouts to earn his 10th win of the season.

In Changwon, NC thrashed KIA 18-3 and set a new KBO record for most runs scored in a game this season.

In Gochuk, league-low Kiwoom extended their winning streak to four games with a 4-2 victory over SSG, who have a long way to go.
