‘New manager’ Kompany wants him…but chances are ‘doubtful’

Bayern Munich are reportedly preparing a move for Jack Grealish. However, it doesn’t seem to be a likely transfer.

The Sun reported on Thursday that “Munich are set to appoint Vincent Kompany as their new coach. He is said to have identified Grillisch as one of his key targets in his rebuilding program. Kompany is known to be a big fan of Grillisch and Munich could have a chance to tempt him to move to Germany.”

Munich would like to bring in Kompany to replace Thomas Tuchel. European soccer expert Fabrizio Romano wrote on his social media account on March 23: “Munich are finalizing a deal to appoint Kompany as their new coach and are close to doing so. Kompany accepted the job at Munich after the first contact and is ready to start a new chapter. Munich and Burnley are in contact to finalize the deal.”

Munich’s search for a new manager has continued to be a difficult one. After Tuchel’s early termination was announced, a number of names were thrown around as possible candidates. Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, Ralf Rangnick, Roberto De Zervi, Unai Emery, Julen Lopetegui, Eric Ten Haag, Roger Schmidt, Hanzi Flick, Oliver Glassner, and many others have been mentioned, but most have either failed in negotiations or turned down the job.

Recently, Kompany has emerged as a strong candidate. Kompany is a legendary defender who played for Manchester City as a player and spent a decade at the club during their golden era in the 2010s. In 2011-12, he won the Premier League (PL) title and was named Player of the Year, and in his 10 years as captain, he won four league titles. After retirement, he began his coaching career, leading his hometown club Anderlecht to the UEFA Europa Conference League (UECL).

He then joined Burnley ahead of the 2022-23 season. In his first season, he became one of the most sought-after managers in the English Championship (second division) and was named Championship Manager of the Year after leading the team to promotion to the Premier 스포츠토토 League within a year. However, the Premier League wasn’t easy. The club struggled to avoid the relegation zone until the end of the season, finishing in 19th place and eventually returning to the Championship after just one season.

Only final negotiations remain. In the meantime, Gralish has been linked to Munich. At one point, he was considered one of the best talents in England. City bought him from Aston Villa for a reported £100 million. He scored five goals and provided 11 assists last season and was an integral part of City’s offense, but some critics said he didn’t live up to expectations. This season, his role was somewhat reduced due to the arrival of Jeremy Dookoo and injuries, and he finished the season with three goals and one assist.

Recently, he has been linked with a move to a number of clubs. However, it’s unlikely that Grillisch will leave the club anytime soon, or that he’ll head to Munich. Romano told JD Football on March 23 that the situation with Grillisch is completely quiet and that he is likely to stay at City.
