Jang Jae-seok’s First 3-Pointer in 1,190 Days is Key to Hyundai Mobis’ Win Over SK in Overtime

Ulsan’s Hyundai Mobis came from behind to beat Seoul SK in overtime to clinch a spot in the sixth round of the playoffs.

The Hyundai Mobis defeated SK 92-80 on Thursday at Dongcheon Gymnasium in Ulsan, South Korea, after Jang Jae-seok (five points) hit a game-tying three-pointer to send the game into overtime in the regular season of the 2023-2024 Korean Basketball Association.

SK, on the other hand, dropped its fifth straight game and pushed head coach Jeon Hee-chul’s quest for at least 100 wins to another occasion.

Leading by one point, 43-42, at halftime, SK pushed its lead to 10 points in the third quarter but was unable to pull away from Hyundai Mobis.

Hyundai Mobis pulled back to within one, 63-64, on a two-pointer by Lee Woo-seok (24 points) with 7:04 left in the fourth quarter.

Seoul SK answered with a 3-pointer by Oh Jae-hyun (21 points), a basket by Choi Buk-kyung and a mid-range jumper by Warney.

However, Hyundai Mobis kept the game close with a two-pointer by Kebe Aluma and a three-pointer by Miguel Andre Okjohn to cut the deficit to 74-75 with 1:09 left.

Calling timeout, SK regrouped, and after a two-point play by Oh Jae-hyun cut the deficit to three points,

they held off the Hyundai Mobis offense to secure the win.

However, Hyundai Mobis sent the game into overtime when center Jang Jae-seok drained a three-pointer just before the end of the fourth quarter to make it 79-79.

It was Jang’s first three-pointer in 1,190 days, since he made one on November 1, 2020.

Jang, who made his professional basketball debut in the 2012-2013 season,

had previously attempted 17 three-pointers in his career and made three of them,

but he drained his fourth three-pointer in the decisive moment against SK on Thursday.

After coming back from the brink of defeat, the Hyundai Mobis completely dominated the overtime period.

Lee Woo-seok and Ok-john took turns scoring for an 86-79 lead, and Lee’s three-pointer with 2:32 left sealed the victory.

Overwhelmed by Hyundai Mobis’ momentum, SK scored just one point in overtime.
