Manchester United wants to sell Anthony.
“United will listen to offers for Anthony this summer as they prepare to take a big loss,” soccer outlet Goal.com reported on Sunday (KST).
United acquired Anthony from Ajax ahead of last season and paid a whopping €95 million ($137.3 million) for him, but he hasn’t lived up to his price tag.
In 44 appearances last season, Anthony scored eight goals and provided three assists. That’s not bad for a first season with a new team, but his offensive point production was disappointing considering his price tag.
Anthony had a rocky start to the season. In September, he was investigated by police for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend. Anthony maintained his innocence and was quickly back on the court after being questioned. However, it didn”t work out.
In 26 appearances, Anthony managed just one goal and one assist. His only offensive point came against fourth division side Newport County in the English FA Cup. “It was a paradoxical performance,” Goal.com wrote after the game, “He scored a goal and an assist but looked clumsy and ineffective throughout the game.”
Peter Schmeichel, a legendary United goalkeeper, also said that “Ten Haag should rethink Anthony’s position” and that “he does not contribute much to the team. He frustrates his teammates.”
Recently, he was humiliated. United hosted Fulham in the 26th round of the English Premier League on Nov. 25 (KST) and lost 1-2. Anthony started the game from the bench and came on 토토 in the dying minutes of the match.
Anthony was on the field for about 40 seconds before the final whistle blew. He has completely lost his place in the United lineup.
Man United are no longer interested in keeping Anthony. New owner Jim Ratcliffe is expected to scrutinize the squad.
Anthony is one of the players on the chopping block. United are even prepared to lose more than half of his transfer fee to get rid of him. However, his failure at United is likely to make it difficult for him to move to another big club.
According to reports, United have counter-offered Anthony to Saudi Arabian professional league teams, but they want more famous and talented players than Anthony.
