FC ONLINE’S KWAK JUN-HYUK WINS E’SPORT’S’ FIRST BRONZE MEDAL, LOSES TO THAILAND IN CLOSE MATCH

Kwak Jun-hyuk (23-KT Rolster), a member of the Korean National Esports Team competing at the Hangzhou Asian Games (AG), has won a bronze medal in the soccer game FC Online (formerly known as FIFA Online 4).Kwak Jun-hyuk lost to Thailand’s Patanasak Varanan in the loser’s bracket final on Sunday at the Hangzhou Esports Center in Hangzhou, China, with a set score of 1:2.Varanan scored two consecutive goals in the first half of game one to take the lead. Kwak Jun-hyuk followed suit with a goal of his own, but eventually dropped the first set 1:2.In the second set, Varanan took the lead in the first half .However, Kwak Jun-hyuk scored one goal in the second half with an aggressive attack on Varanan’s goal and dragged the game into overtime .The overtime period was scoreless, but Kwak’s focus shone through in the penalty shootout .Kwak scored four goals in a row in the penalty shootout to take the second set and tie the match at 1:1.A third set was on the line. Kwak Jun-hyuk’s calm defense kept his opponent’s early pressure at bay, but Baranan’s fierce mid-range shot found an opening. Kwak Jun-hyuk tried to make amends, but was repeatedly thwarted by Varanan’s defense in the second half. Kwak Jun-hyuk made several adjustments to his lineup in extra time to try and pull off the upset, but the referee’s whistle wasn’t waiting for Korea .Kwak ended up winning the bronze medal, ending his journey in Hangzhou. Park Ki-young (18-Ultra Sejong), who competed in the FC Online event alongside Kwak Jun-hyuk and earned the first AG victory of the year across all esports disciplines, finished in fourth place after losing 2:0 to Varanan on April 25.The FC Online final was set to be a showdown between Thai players. Varanan, who defeated Park Ki-young and Kwak Jun-hyuk in straight sets, will play for the gold medal against his 스포츠토토존 AG teammate Tedek Songsaisakul.
