Renard’s World Cup run is the talk of the town
First coach to win both men’s and women’s tournaments
‘It was a face I recognized’
Hervé Renard, the 55-year-old French coach who caused a sensation at last year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar when he took charge of Saudi Arabia and led them to a group stage victory over Argentina, a team backed by Lionel Messi, is once again drawing attention to his face at this year’s Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Following the conclusion of the World Cup in Qatar, Renard took over the reins of the French national team for the Women’s World Cup. Renard led France to a 2-1 victory over Argentina in the first round of Group C at last year’s World Cup in Qatar. It was Argentina’s only loss at the tournament, which they won.
Renard stepped down as Saudi coach in March of this year, saying he was “very proud to show the world that Saudi football has improved”. He immediately took charge of the French women’s national team.
After a 0-0 draw against Jamaica in their first Group F match at the Women’s World Cup on March 23, France won their second match against Brazil 2-1 on March 29. The victory over Brazil made Renard the first coach to win both the men’s and women’s World Cups. FIFA also took notice, publishing an article on its website titled “Who is Renard?”. With one win and one draw in the group stage of the tournament, 스포츠토토 France is tied with Jamaica with four points and is top of the group on goal difference. France will play Panama on Feb. 2 in their final group game.
