Samsung Lions foreign ace David Buchanan paved the way for his team’s victory with a performance that lived up to expectations despite the lack of luck.
Samsung won the 13th game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League against SSG Landers 5-4 at SSG Landers Field in Incheon on Nov. 11.
Foreign starter David Buchanan didn’t get the win, but he pitched six innings of two-run ball. After the game, Buchanan said, “I’m not disappointed. I think it’s my job as a starting pitcher to give my all for the team,” Buchanan said after the game.
However, manager Park Jin-man said, “I’m disappointed that Buchanan was unable to protect the victory even though he pitched a gutsy game, breaking his KBO record.”
Buchanan threw 129 pitches, the most since joining the KBO. His previous high was 119 pitches in a game. The previous two games were on May 13 against the Gwangju KIA and May 14 against the Daegu Doosan.
“I’m really happy that the team won,” Buchanan said, “but I was upset that it took me until the sixth inning to throw so many pitches. I honestly didn’t expect to throw so many pitches. I think I got shaky in the beginning, which led to the high pitch count. But I’m thankful that my pitching coach believed in me.”
Buchanan had good results in both games against SSG. On June 25, he pitched seven innings of one-run ball to earn the win against SSG, and while he didn’t get the win today, he lived up to expectations with a quality start.
“SSG is a strong team. They always pitch with focus. Plus, Landers Field is a hitter-friendly ballpark. I tried to be aggressive and throw as many strikes as possible, and it paid off.” 파워볼사이트
